چکیده

Electronic passports (e-passports) are to prevent the illegal entry of traveller into a specific country and limit the use of counterfeit documents by more accurate identification of an individual. The epassport, as it is sometimes called, represents a bold initiative in the deployment of two new technologies: cryptography security and biometrics (face, fingerprints, palm prints and iris). A passport contains the important personal information of holder such as photo, name, date of birth and place, nationality, date of issue, date of expiry, authority and so on. The goal of the adoption of the electronic passport is not only to expedite processing at border crossings, but also to increase security. The paper explores the privacy and security implications of this impending worldwide experiment in biometrics authentication technology.

Evolution of Electronic Passport Scheme using Cryptographic Protocol along with Biometrics Authentication System

Millions of citizens around the world have already acquired their new electronic passport. The epassport is equipped with contactless chip which stores personal data of the passport holder, information about the passport and the issuing institution, as well as with a multiple biometrics enabling cryptographic functionality. Countries are required to build a Public Key Infrastructure, biometric ...

Towards a More Secure and Scalable Verifying PKI of eMRTD

The new electronic passport stores biometric data on a contactless readable chip to uniquely link the travel document to its holder. This sensitive data is protected by a complex protocol called Extended Access Control (EAC) against unlawful readouts. EAC is manifold and thus needs a complex public key infrastructure (PKI). Additionally EAC is known to suffer from unsolved weaknesses, e.g., sto...

A survey of system security in contactless electronic passports

A traditional paper-based passport contains a MachineReadable Zone (MRZ) and a Visual Inspection Zone (VIZ). The MRZ has two lines of the holder’s personal data, some document data, and verification characters encoded using the Optical Character Recognition font B (OCRB). The encoded data includes the holder’s name, date of birth, and other identifying information for the holder or the document...

Security Analysis of Australian and E.U. E-passport Implementation

This paper makes a formal security analysis of the current Australian e-passport implementation using model checking tools CASPER/CSP/FDR. We highlight security issues in the current implementation and identify new threats when an e-passport system is integrated with an automated processing system like SmartGate. The paper also provides a security analysis of the European Union (EU) proposal fo...

A biometric based secure session key agreement using modified elliptic curve cryptography

Protection of data and network security has been greatly researched. To enhance the security in the case of border control applications like E-Passport, conventional cryptographic concepts are integrated with biometrics. To avoid the intrusion of terrorists after the terrorists attack of 9/11, many countries begin to issue E-Passport to their citizens contains biometric data like face, fingerpr...
